Kyoto Jazz Massive - brothers Shuya and Yoshihiro Okino - for several years belong to the hottest and most influential acts of the international club scene, as DJs, producers and remixers. As a description of their music you will find a lot of terms: Future Jazz, Nu Jazz, Jazz Fusion, Electronic Jazz and several others. The music of Kyoto Jazz Massive combines (or is influenced by) traditional Jazz, Soul, Funk, Acid Jazz, latin american music (especially Bossa Nova), music that artists like Herbie Hancock and Lonnie Liston Smith did in the late 70s, and House Music.
The Okino brothers started their career in music in the late 80s as DJs in Kyoto. Since the early 90s they also had regular appearences in clubs in Tokyo and Osaka. The older brother, Yoshinori, is also a serious record collector (especially Jazz, Soul and brazilian music) and runs a record store and since 2000 his own record label (both named Especial Records) in Osaka.
In the fall of 2002 Kyoto Jazz Massive releases their first full album »Spirit of the sun« which was also released in Germany on Compost Records. Before that they had released a number of EPs which were available as CD maxi singles and/or 12" singles as well as some compilations on which Kyoto Jazz Massive collaborated with other artists.
